Joel Osteen Embraces Mormonism

Happy New Year Everyone!

I hope 2008 started out well for you. Mine started out just fine until I discovered that positive-thinking preacher (and I use the term loosely) Joel Osteen stuck both feet and most of his legs in his mouth on Fox News with Chris Wallace (December 23, 2007). That's right, Rev. Osteen (and I use the title loosely) told America that he doesn't exactly know what Mormons teach (because he hasn't really thought about it) but he does know that Mitt Romney's Jesus is his Jesus:

WALLACE: And what about Mitt Romney? And I've got to ask you the question, because it is a question whether it should be or not in this campaign, is a Mormon a true Christian?

OSTEEN: Well, in my mind they are. Mitt Romney has said that he believes in Christ as his savior, and that's what I believe, so, you know, I'm not the one to judge the little details of it. So I believe they are.

And so, you know, Mitt Romney seems like a man of character and integrity to me, and I don't think he would — anything would stop me from voting for him if that's what I felt like.

WALLACE: So, for instance, when people start talking about Joseph Smith, the founder of the church, and the golden tablets in upstate New York, and God assumes the shape of a man, do you not get hung up in those theological issues?

OSTEEN: I probably don't get hung up in them because I haven't really studied them or thought about them. And you know, I just try to let God be the judge of that. I mean, I don't know.

I certainly can't say that I agree with everything that I've heard about it, but from what I've heard from Mitt, when he says that Christ is his savior, to me that's a common bond.

Men like Joel Osteen will have a great deal to answer for in the end (as will all of us) but his ignorance on the nature of Jesus Christ is appalling in a Christian--let alone someone who claims the title of "pastor"--and his deliberate refusal to defend the faith is nothing less than cowardice.

Let's take a closer look at the Jesus Joel Osteen believes in--by his own admission--the same Jesus of the Mormons:

- Mormonism teaches that Jesus was not conceived by the Holy Spirit . . . just a "little detail" that Joel Osteen hasn't thought much about.

- Mormonism teaches that Jesus and Satan are brothers . . . another little detail Rev. Osteen hasn't thought about.

- Mormonism teaches God is an exalted man who had physical sex with the Virgin Mary to produce Jesus . . . just another little detail missed by Rev. Osteen.

So, if we take Osteen's remarks to their logical conclusions, than Joel Osteen is now a Mormon.

Mitt Romney's Jesus is Joel Osteen's Jesus.

Ridiculous?

This is what Rev. Joel Osteen claims is true.

"My brethren, let not many of you become teachers, knowing that we shall receive a stricter judgment." James 3:1

Osteen's foolish words on national television could endanger the souls of thousands who follow him, and he should be denounced for his cowardice and the incalculable damage he has just done to the body of Christ.

You can read more of Osteen's ramblings here: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,318054,00.html

And if you don't agree with him, let Lakewood Church know:

I did.

Gee what a shock. The fellow who teaches "Christian lite" removing the offense from the cross sees no difference in the Jesus and a Jesus.

2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. 4 For if he that cometh preacheth another Jesus, whom we have not preached, or if ye receive another spirit, which ye have not received, or another gospel, which ye have not accepted, ye might well bear with him.

The Corinthians bared with heretics too until Paul straightened them out.

You mentioned the ignorance of J.O.

What I think is appalling is the ignorance of MOST believers.

As your father preached on many times, "a lot of ministers don't know how to teach on the nature of God." Specifically (in his sermons) on the triune nature of God.

Not one true believer should escape such biblical teaching as this... much less pastor / teachers! This is nothing less than the authentication that the "Jesus" one believes in is the genuine Jesus.

As I said before, the size and scope of J.O.'s ministry clued me in before half listening to the guy on air that his gospel message is watered down. The world loves a tame gospel and a doormat savior.

You can't dilute the cleansing blood of Christ.

That is what happens when your theology is a yard wide, and a foot deep.

Sent to Osteen:

Mormon Jesus and Christian Jesus not the same Jesus

LDS Founder Joseph Smith jr. claims the angel Moroni lead him to the Mormon Jesus (spirit brother of Lucifer son of Elohim an exalted man from a previous life):

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. 9 As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

Political correctness or positive confession or can't we all just get along? won't fare too well when facing the Judge in his white throne.

Oh, don't be so hard on him! He's just following in the footsteps of Biola and others we've seen arguing for overlooking heresy on this very blog.

On 2nd thought, be hard on him...

Its a shame that Osteen only adds to the ignorance of many believers rather than be equipped to teach them.

Has there been any info here yet on the John Hagee teaching that Jesus is not the Messiah?
