I love Christmas. It's especially wonderful in a small town, where you can walk into the Post Office and hear Christmas Carols (with a Gospel message) playing in the background. . . and the ACLU is nowhere in sight. I love hearing "Merry Christmas" over and over again--a wonderful reminder every single day of the joy Jesus brings to the earth. I love the extra measure of kindness and warmth in the people I run across (yes, I know there's always a grump or two) but in general, people seem happier at Christmas. In a world tainted by evil, Christmas brings hope and a measure of peace. It's not about things or people . . . it's a reminder of the love of God.

This world is a testing ground--a training field--boot camp. Eternity is what matters, and anyone who thinks that God doesn't care about the little things in life has a great big surprise coming in the end. Just a few verses from Proverbs show that God cares very much about every detail in our lives:

The lot is cast into the lap,
But its every decision is from the LORD. Proverbs 16:33

The refining pot is for silver and the furnace for gold,
But the LORD tests the hearts. Proverbs 17:3

He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD,
And He will pay back what he has given. Proverbs 19:17

What is desired in a man is kindness,
And a poor man is better than a liar. Proverbs 19:22

He who mistreats his father and chases away his mother
Is a son who causes shame and brings reproach. Proverbs 19:26

If a man pays back evil for good, evil will never leave his house. Proverbs 17:13

Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water,
But a man of understanding will draw it out. Proverbs 20:5

The spirit of a man is the lamp of the LORD,
Searching all the inner depths of his heart. Proverbs 20:27

Food for thought . . . .

Merry Christmas to all of you--my brothers and sisters in the Lord--my friends.

Merry Christmas.

I sent my last comment about HHH before your last entry there. You sounded encouraged and elevated the topic by segway to the season.

Regards.
