Good morning and Happy Saturday to all of you. :) I'm spending my day working on copyedits for The Kingdom of the Occult, so please pray.

On a lighter note, my niece, Amber, sent me this little observation on marriage that I thought you might enjoy. As most of us know, marriage is hard work at times (but well worth it). I look at it as one of God's training programs . . . .

CROCHET DOLL

A man and woman had been married for more than 60 years. They shared everything. They talked about everything. They kept no secrets from each other . . . except that the little old woman had a shoe-box in the top of her closet that she had cautioned her husband never to open or ask her about.

For all of these years, he had never thought about the box, but one day the little old woman got very sick and the doctor said she would not recover. In trying to sort out their affairs, the little old man took down the shoe-box and took it to his wife's bedside. She agreed that it was time that he should know what was in the box. When he opened it, he found two crocheted dolls and a stack of money totaling $95,000. He asked her about the contents.

"When we were to be married," she said, " my grandmother told me the secret of a happy marriage was never to argue. She told me that if I ever got angry with you, I should just keep quiet and crochet a doll."

The little old man was so moved he had to fight back tears. Only two precious dolls were in the box. She had only been angry with him two times in all those years of living and loving. He almost burst with happiness.

"Darling," he said, "that explains the doll, but what about all of this money? Where did it come from?"

"Oh," she said, "That's the money I made from selling the dolls."

:) Have a great day!

Married 27 years this past Christmas (together through thick and thin) I still am amazed by the love and genius of God's plan. Early on in our marriage when I deployed on a Navy cruise, my newly wed bride bought me a guitar to keep me occupied while over seas. I wrote her a song "Queen for a Day" (a game she played as a child), but mostly spent my time over seas writing her long love letters (which I started over and over again whenever there was the slightest mistake). No computer in those days. A portable type writer and long hand were the ways of letter writing then.

Over the years since my discharge from the Navy I'd pick up that guitar, then I put it down for years on end. But I picked it up again a few years back and got quite good at it. As I improved my fingers transformed (especially the tips with callouses).

Marriage is a lot like playing guitar. Both hands must play in unison and sometimes don't. When that happens they are not making music. Each song must be learned, experienced, sustained and at times gotten through. Callouses eventually build up and ward off what used to be super sensitive and painful points. And when done properly it all put together makes beautiful music.

I write my beloved songs all the time now. One we both like has a simple lyric:

She'll drive you crazy
Like no one can

She'll driiiive you crazy
Like no one cannnn

That's 'cause she' been
Where none gets in

She'll make you happy
Like no one can

She'll make you happy
'n glad you're a man

That's 'cause she' been
Where none gets in

Where nonnne geeeets in...

This song was my 25th Wedding Anniversary present to my wife.

Like Christmas on a winter's morn
And the colors of the autumn leaves
And the sunshine on a summers day
None can hold a candle to thee

Springtime Janae
Springtime Janae
Springtime Janae
Springtime Janae

Though you were summer born
You are the harvest beauty queen
And though you wintered many storms
You are the freshness of spring

Springtime Janae
Springtime Janae
Springtime Janae
Springtime Janae

It has a James Taylor-esque style and music progression.
