For a fascinating discussion on Evangelical Feminism (featuring yours truly and the ever amazing Dwayna Litz) checkout the VCY America radio show Crosstalk (hosted by Ingrid Schlueter):

(Fans of Dr. Doug Groothuis - Denver Seminary, his wife Rebecca Groothuis, Christians for Biblical Equality - CBE, and Dr. Craig Hazen - Biola University, might find it especially enlightening.)

I am a fan of Dr. Groothuis, having read and been encouraged by his book Truth Decay. He and Rebecca are obviously godly people and have done amazing things for the Lord. He is a first class philosopher and apologist for Christ in addition to being a top-notch scholor.

You have mis-represented their position on Christian egalitarianism and play the same guilt by association tricks Christian "Research" Net and the former Slice of Laodicea are known for. Shame on you. Save your vitriol for the real cults.

Ray,

Did you even listen to the broadcast? I specifically stated that Dr. Groothuis does not believe it is correct to call God "mother."

However, he still links to Christians for Biblical Equality (CBE)and his wife Rebecca Groothuis is an adviser to CBE.

They did not change their affiliation with CBE even after being confronted with the doctrinal error CBE is promoting.

CBE endorses the worship of God as MOTHER (Gnosticism).

Doug and Rebecca Groothuis are affiliated with CBE.

You can't say one thing and do another.

Seems pretty clear to me.

Thanks for posting,

Jill

I did indeed listen to the entire show and I sent a link to Dr. Groothuis. I believe you misrepresented what his wife wrote in her book and are guilty of using bad logic, not to mention poisoning the well.

Perhaps if you provided links to CBE's website saying "Here is where they believe..." such and such, maybe that would help.

Ray,

Egalitarianism isn't a free pass to associate with anyone you please.

I am not disputing the good work DG has done in the past. I am saying he gives the impression he endorses CBE by linking to their website and supporting his wife in her ties to CBE.

Once again, Doug and Rebecca Groothuis did not change their affiliation with CBE even after being confronted with the doctrinal error (i.e. heresy) CBE is promoting.

Please do not continue posting if you're going to repeat accusations without documentation.

Thanks,

Jill

Jill,

I think your readers might be interested in the response posted by Rebecca Merrill Groothuis over at Doug's blog:

Ray,

I'll let your post stand at the moment--even though I don't like links that support an agenda.

Doug and Rebecca Groothuis are doing what they always do when it comes to CBE--they SAY one thing, and DO the opposite.

If they don't believe these things, why are they affiliated with a "ministry" that actively promotes the worship of God as mother?

Words mean nothing if actions contradict them.

Jill
